STANBC @ the EAC 2025 – The BC symposium
The European Aerosol Conference (EAC 2025) took place this year in Lecce, Italy (31 August –5 September2025). As part of the event, the BC Symposium, organized by the 22NRM02 STANBC project on 3 September, brought together leading scientists and stakeholders to discuss the role of Black Carbon (BC) in climate and health research. With BC now included in the new EU Air Quality Directive, the panel emphasized the urgent need for harmonised measurement approaches, clearer definitions, and improved communication with policymakers and the public. Discussions also highlighted the importance of standardising light absorption and mass absorption cross-section metrics, as well as fostering collaboration between researchers, regulators, and instrument manufacturers to advance consistency and comparability in BC research and policy implementation.
